Dukes Down ODU: Giggetts, JMU Win, 68-56

 

NORFOLK — Sophomore forward Toia Giggetts had a career-high 17 rebounds and scored 10 points to lead James Madison to a 68-56 win over Old Dominion in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball game Tuesday.

 

The Dukes improved to 16-8 overall, 10-2 in the CAA; the Monarchs fell to 16-8, 7-5.

 

Giggetts’ 17 rebounds were the most for a JMU player since Lauren Jimenez had 17 against Monmouth on Dec. 18, 2010.

 

Senior point guard Tarik Hislop scored a game-high 22 points — 18 in the second half — and had four assists for Madison, and freshman guard Precious Hall had 15 points and four steals for JMU, which out-rebounded ODU 54-38 and outscored the Monarchs 41-29 in the second half. It was tied 27-27 at halftime.

 

Shae Kelley led ODU with 18 points and eight rebounds.

EMU 77, Bridgewater 54: Alisa Brown scored 13 points and Keyla Baltimore had 12 to lead Eastern Mennonite University to a 77-54 win over Bridgewater in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday at Nininger Hall.

 

The first-place Royals improved to 18-5 overall, 14-1 in the ODAC; the fourth-place Eagles fell to 13-10, 10-5.

 

Steph Rheinheimer and Shakeerah Sykes had 11 points, and Bianca Ygarza had 10 for EMU, which swept the season series.

 

The Royals shot 50 percent from the floor while out-rebounding BC 52-33.

 

Holly Morgan led BC with a game-high 18 points, and Jessica Mullen had 12. The Eagles shot just 33.3 percent.
