HARRISONBURG — A portion of Va. 701 in Rockingham County is scheduled to close for a month beginning July 8 to replace the Cooks Creek bridge. Va. 701 between Eberly Road and Bowman Road near Dayton will be closed.
Motorists will still have access to homes and businesses on either side of the work zone, with signs guiding traffic on several detours, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation press release.
From the north, drivers will turn left onto Eberly Road, right on John Wayland Highway, right on Mason Street, right on Westview Street and then right on Bowman Road to return to Va. 701.
Drivers approaching from the south will turn left onto Bowman Road, left on Westview Street, left on Mason Street, left on John Wayland Highway and then left on Eberly Road to return to Va. 701.
VDOT urges motorists to be alert for occasional flagger traffic control on Va. 701 through July 3 due to preliminary bridge work, according to VDOT.
Cooks Creek bridge is expected to be replaced with a box culvert.
The full closure is scheduled for July 8-Aug. 9. Inclement weather may extend the construction time and road closure.
