While getting my vehicle inspected in Timberville, I met a man wearing a Korean War hat.
With much coaxing, I found out that he had fought with the Marines from Inchon 300 miles north to the Chosin Resevoir and then to Puson.
These Marines fought much of the Korean winter in summer clothing, were ill-equipped and constantly out-ran their supply lines.
At Chosin, they received better clothing and more supplies, but not enough. Forty thousand Marines were surprised by 500,000 to 800,000 fresh Chinese troops, who were dressed to withstand the minus 60-degree cold. Fighting was often hand-to-hand.
Every Marine who participated in the March to Puson suffered unimaginably from the cold, frostbite, the enemy and the lack of everything.
Every Marine who was there will go to heaven. They have served their time in Hell, in Korea.
