Phyllis A. Hinkle
Phyllis Ann Vandevander Hinkle, 73, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at her daughter's home in Staunton.
Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

Lee Roy Tomney, 79, of Shenandoah, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at his home.

Reatha M. Reese, 62
Reatha Mae Reese, 62, a resident of 10204 Steamboat Hollow Road, Dayton, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Reese was born on Feb. 27, 1947, in Bethesda, Md., and was a daughter of the late Samuel T. and Maude L. Lucas Foster.
She was employed by Rockingham County Schools and worked in the cafeteria at Ottobine Elementary School. She loved to read and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren.
On Sept. 3, 1966, she married William H. "Steamboat" Reese, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Betty Jo Reese of Dayton, Susie Swecker and husband, Darin, of Dayton, William W. Reese and wife, Michelle, of Pennsylvania; one brother, Junior Foster of Dayton; one sister, Diane Quick-Luke and husband, Roger, of Greenville, Va.; and six grandchildren, Whitney Swecker, Kris Reese, Tiffani Reese, ShyAnna Miller, Ellie Miller, and Robyn Swecker.
Mrs. Reese was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Eye.
Wendell "Sonny" Henkel and Pastor John Jantzi will conduct a memorial service Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 8 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home.

Wilda J. Strawder, 65
Wilda Jean Strawder, 65, of Timberville, Va., died Feb. 6, 2010, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 26, 1944, in West Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Cecil and Mabel B. Smith Strawder.
She had worked at Randolph County Senior Center.
Surviving are a son, Benjamin Russell of Harrisonburg; three brothers, Cecil and Jack Strawder, and Russell Strawder; two sisters, Nancy Fenstemacher and Janice Strawder; and one grandson.
The body was cremated at her request.

Lila M. ‘Dodie' Groseclose, 79
Mrs. Lila "Dodie" McCall Groseclose, 79, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Friday morning, Feb. 5, 2010, at Pulaski Community Hospital.
A daughter of the late Grover C. McCall Sr. and Minnie Alice Cox McCall, she was born on Jan. 23, 1931, in Pulaski, Va.
She graduated from Pulaski High School and attended Lynchburg College. Mrs. Groseclose was a homemaker and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed bridge, golf and reading and was a member of the Massanutten Presbyterian Church.
On May 30, 1953, she married William H. "Bill" Groseclose, who preceded her in death on March 15, 2003.
Surviving are two sons, William H. Groseclose III and his wife, Sabrena S., of Bridgewater, and Mark M. Groseclose of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Samuel K., Sarah Marie and Whitney A. Groseclose; one brother, Grover C. McCall Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Opal M. Newland, Bonnie McCall, Mildred M. Carper, Nellie M. Lacey and Betty M. French, and one brother, Bruce B. McCall.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Massanutten Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Leggett officiating. Private burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Massanutten Regional Library, 174 S. Main St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

Phyllis A. Hinkle, 73
Phyllis Ann Vandevander Hinkle, 73, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at her daughter's home in Staunton.
She was born in Franklin, W.Va., on Jan. 2, 1937, and was a daughter of the late Lee and Julia Catherine Vandevander.
Phyllis was a member of Clover Hill United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Julie Caracofe and husband, Johnny, of Timberville, Vickie Marshall and husband, John H. Jr., of Staunton, and Frances (Roxie) Salmons and husband, Golden, of Bridgewater; one son, Tony Joe Hinkle of Port Republic; a daughter-in-law, Lori Ann Hinkle of Dayton; a sister, Beulah Wills of Pennsylvania; and a brother, Bruce Vandevander of Harrisonburg. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Hinkle, a grandson, Edward Lee Shifflett, and 10 brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at Clover Hill United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, with the Rev. Don Kuhns and the Rev. George Yoder officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

Marguerite P. Good, 89
Marguerite P. Good, 89, of Stanley, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Page Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 6, 1920, in Louisiana, and was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Alice Pritchett.
On Oct. 14, 1945, she married William Carol Good, who preceded her in death on May 25, 1980.
She is survived by a son, William Carol Good Jr. and wife, Rose, of Centerville, Ohio; a daughter, Wanda Good and husband, Pete, of Stanley; a grandson, Chris Good of Big Rapids, Mich.; a granddaughter, Marena Tyson and husband, Jon, of Dayton, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Naomi Tyson; and numerous nieces and nephews and a very loving and caring church family.
Pastor Jeff Taylor will conduct a funeral service Thursday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Stanley Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Stanley Seventh-day Adventist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 10, between 6 and 8 p.m.
Flowers or memorial contributions to the church in her name are welcome.

Ronnie E. Campbell Sr., 50
Ronnie Ervin Campbell Sr., 50, of Luray, passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home.
Ronnie was born Jan. 25, 1960, in Luray, and was a son of Ervin and Louella Lucas Campbell of Stanley.
He was a landscaper until ill health forced him to retire.
On Sept. 12, 1980, he married the former Lena Mae Seal, who survives.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ronnie is survived by two sons, Ronnie E. Campbell Jr. of Stanley, and Richard Paul Campbell of Luray; two sisters, Janet Elaine Turner of Luray, and Gayle A. Collins of Stanley; a brother, Robert Campbell of Stanley; and a granddaughter, Sierra Dawn Campbell of Luray.
Ronnie was a member of the Blue Ridge Pentecostal Church near Stanley, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. The Revs. Aldine Pence and Jack Campbell will officiate. Interment will follow in the Knight family cemetery near Stanley.
The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, where the family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday from 7 until 8 p.m.

Nancy L. Turner, 70
Nancy Loretta Virginia Turner, 70, of Stanley, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in Stanley.
Mrs. Turner was born April 27, 1939, in Stanley, and was the daughter of the late Ervin Austin Bradley and Linda (Painter) Bradley.
She was a member of Mount Carmel Primitive Baptist Church.
On Feb. 3, 1958, she married David Edgar Turner, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey Austin Turner of Luray, Michael Anthony Turner of Woodville and Harvey Trenton Turner of Stanley; a daughter, Reda Jane Johnson of Luray; and one grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Lee Mae Wayland.
Elders Forest Atwood, James Painter and Ernest M. Long will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12. Burial will be at the Painter family cemetery in Stanley.

Lee Roy Tomney, 79
Lee Roy Tomney, 79, of Shenandoah, died on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at his home. He was born March 30, 1930, in Roanoke, Va., and was the son of the late Lee Roy Sr. and Grace Katherine Shaffer Tomney of Shenandoah.
He was affectionately known as "Buddy" or "Froggy." He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1951 and received the first community award ever given for "The Best All-Around Athlete of The Year." He played varsity football, baseball, and basketball during his four years in high school. He also ran track for two years.
In August 1951, he was called into military service in Korea until May 1953. He received the Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant for Meritorious service in Korea. He was owner and operator of Tomney's Gulf Station in Shenandoah from 1957 to 1964 and operated Luray Bowling Lanes from 1958 to 1966. He was also owner and operator of T-Bowl Lanes in Shenandoah since 1964 to the present time.
In 1962, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in the Shenandoah Post Office. He was appointed Postmaster in 1968 and remained in this position until his retirement in June 1990. He was a longtime member of the Shenandoah Lions Club, the Moose Lodge and the VFW, and he served on the Industrial Commission and the Board of Directors of Sovern Bank from 1971 to 1985 and was chairman of the Board from 1985 until 1989.
Other memberships include the National Association of Federal Retired Employees, the National Professional Bowler Tour and the Virginia State Professional Bowlers Tour. He also won the State Double Bowling Tournament and the National Doubles Bowling tournament. He was also inducted into the National Bowling Congress Hall of Fame on May 1, 2009. For many years, he was an avid sports fan, especially the Shenandoah Indians Baseball team. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and had served as a trustee.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Turner Tomney, whom he married Oct. 19, 1957. Also surviving are a son, Charles Lee "Chuck" Tomney and his wife, Cindy; and a beloved grandson, Ross Tomney. Surviving also are a sister, Betty Jane Tomney Howdyshell and husband, Charlie, of Richmond; a brother, Jack Shaffer of Luray; one nephew, Steve Howdyshell and his family of Richmond; and one uncle, Bill Shaffer and wife, Joan, of Roanoke. He had very special in-laws, Elaine and Jerry Stillwell, Lois and Lowell Will, Millie and Wendell Turner and Fran and Billy Turner; nephews, Mike Stillwell, Edwin Will, Dave Turner, Tom Turner; and niece, Suellen Mallette.
He had started dialysis in July 2003 and had participated in several research projects, one for the University of Alabama.
His body now rests at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may call at the Tomney home any time.
Services will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carrie Talbot officiating. Burial will be private at the George Comer Cemetery.

Velda Bayse Wolfrey, 76
Mrs. Velda Bayse Wolfrey, 76, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
The daughter of the late Gladys Cullers, she was born on Feb. 9, 1933, in Mathias, W.Va., where she graduated from high school. She was a member of Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Wolfrey was an excellent homemaker and mother.
On Nov. 15, 1953, she married Herbert C. Wolfrey Jr., who survives.
She also leaves five children, Danny Wolfrey of White Post, Va., Stephen Wolfrey of Mount Airy, Md., Yvonne Hensley of Vienna, Va., Herbert Wolfrey III of Cascade, Md., and Keith Wolfrey of Joppa, Md.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one half sister, Jerlene Rosensteel. She was preceded in death by a half sister, Leona Hahn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, from Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
