J. Wayne Chamblee

J. Wayne Chamblee, 68, of Weyers Cave, Va., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at his home.

He was born in Ahoskie, N.C., on Jan. 27, 1950, and was the son of the late Robert Lee and Valeria Brown Chamblee. Also preceding him in death are his grandparents, John and Essie Chamblee, with whom he was very close.

Wayne was a chemist and a chemical engineer and had worked for Union Camp, RJR Nabisco, Merck, Kamyr, and Roche Carolina prior to his retirement. He worked in research and development and held many patents with his colleagues. He also worked in production and excelled at problem-solving. He was active at Bridgewater United Methodist Church in Virginia and Pisgah UMC in Florence, S.C., and was raised in the Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Wayne loved the outdoors, hiking and biking, canoeing and traveling. He was a private pilot and an amateur radio operator.

He was united in marriage on July 22, 1989, to Karen Taeuber Chamblee of Weyers Cave. Wayne loved his family deeply. Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, are his sister, Phyllis Hoggard (Larry) of Ahoskie, N.C.; nephew, Chad Hoggard (Suzanne and their daughter, Hope); niece, Michelle Hite (Ronnie and their daughter, Madeline); sister-in-law, Susan Green (Dan and her children, Ben, Matthew and Anna DiMario); brother-in-law, Richard Taeuber (daughters, Loren Taeuber (Dre and Silas Benjamin), Julie Taeuber (Chloe Mallett, Lucas Anthony, Logan Anthony) and Brianna Taeuber).

A memorial service will be held at Bridgewater United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, with the Rev. Stephen Creech and the Rev. Jim Harris officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Overlook Scholarship Fund, 3014 Camp Overlook Lane, Keezletown, VA 22832, or the Society of St. Andrew, 3383 Sweet Hollow Road, Big Island, VA 24526-8517.
