Billy Joe Stephens Sr.

Billy Joe Stephens Sr., 71, of Grottoes, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at his home.

Billy was born in Round Mountain, Ark., on Jan. 30, 1941, and was a son of the late Lee and Lilly (Sanson) Stephens.

He worked as a clerk for CVS in Waynesboro and retired from the U.S. Navy.

On Oct. 12, 1979, he was united in marriage to Sandy (Irvine) Stephens, who survives.

Billy is also survived by four daughters, Melody Stephens and partner, Beth Hall, of Virginia Beach, Theresa Johnson and husband Mike, of Franklin, W.Va., Annette Outlaw and husband, William, of Grandy, N.C., and Lori Stephens of Daytona, Fla.; four sons, Phillip Stephens, Billy Stephens Jr. of Virginia Beach, Charles Stephens and wife, Monica, of Grottoes, and JD Stephens and wife, Laura, of Grottoes; four sisters, Lena Friddle of Susanville, Calif., Hazel Friddle, Marlyn Stephens and Carolyn Hambright, all of Conway, Ark.; two brothers, John Stephens and wife, Desslie of Mayflower, Ark., and Romie Stephens and wife, Margie, of Conway, Ark. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Billy was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Stephens, and two brothers, Robert and James Stephens.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes with Pastor James Kite officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Weyers Cave with military grave rites performed by Dayton American Legion Post 27.

The family received friends Sunday at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.
