James M. Gill

James Mason Gill, 52, of Staunton, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

He was born Feb. 10, 1960, in West Virginia, a son of the late Mason Julian Gill and Hilda Byer Bates.

Mr. Gill was a self-employed landscaper. He was an avid Redskin, NASCAR and softball fan. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His hobbies included cooking and gardening.

He never met a stranger and will be sadly missed.

Family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa Gill, of Timberville, and Tina and Chris Lame, of Virginia Beach; four brothers, Bobby Gill, Billy Gill and Keith Byer, all of Richmond, and Arlan Bates Jr. of Covington; four grandchildren; and his beloved fiancée and caregiver, Marie Licwinko.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Green Hill Cemetery in Pastures.

Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
