Guy F. Whetzel

Guy Franklin Whetzel, 73, of Broadway, died June 11, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 10, 1939, in Rockingham County, and was a son of the late David Elmer and Pearley Mae Sonifrank Whetzel.

He was a machine operator at Dunham-Bush for 37 years, before retiring. He attended Woods Chapel Independent Bible Church in New Market.

His first wife, Luvada Mae Whetzel, whom he married April 3, 1959, preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2002.

On Nov. 29, 2009, he married the former Shirley Runion, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy Whetzel of Timberville, and Sandra McPherson of Wisconsin; one son, Dennis Whetzel of Timberville; five grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Whetzel, Amber, Damein, and Ondreia McPherson; two brothers, Ashby Whetzel of Broadway and Don Whetzel of New Market; two stepchildren, Penny Wegman and Shannon Runion, both of Timberville; three stepgranddaughters and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Archie, Jim, and Luke Whetzel; two sisters, Kathleen Ritchie, Martha Billhimer; and one grandson, Victor McPherson.

Pastors Glen Turner and Stanley Salyards will conduct a funeral service 10 a.m., Thursday, June 14, at the Grandle Funeral Home chapel in Broadway. Burial will be in the Linville Creek cemetery, in Broadway.
 
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Grandle Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
