Robert “Bob” Lee Raynes of Port Republic passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving and caring family.
Bob was born March 27, 1931, in Port Republic, and was the son of the late William Henry and Goldie Morris Raynes. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Raynes Jr. and Marion F. Raynes.
Bob graduated from Port Republic High School in 1950, where he excelled in sports. He retired from Reynolds Metals in 1993. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the Shenandoah Valley — his home.
He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Diehl Raynes, and they celebrated 63 wonderful years together. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his wonderful children; a son, Robert Ellis Raynes and wife, Brenda, of Port Republic; two daughters, Susan L. Raynes of Port Republic and Debbie Raynes McDonald and husband, Steve, of Elkton.
He was very proud of his eight grandchildren, Robert Ellis Raynes Jr. and wife, Vickie, Christopher S. Raynes and wife, Lisa, Angelic L. Raynes, Mark E. Sipe and Bradley S. Sipe, all of Port Republic, Bryce E. McDonald, Jarid L. McDonald, Jessica E. McDonald of Elkton; and his eight great-grandchildren, Joshua Raynes, Camryn Raynes, Keeston Raynes, Macy Raynes, Amber Kesner, Hunter Sipe, Arabella Sipe and Austin McDonald. He is also survived by one nephew, Billy L. Raynes and wife, Susan, of Richmond, Va.
The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.
Per Bob’s request, he was cremated and burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grottoes Rescue Squad or Grottoes Fire Department.
