Johnny Walter “Stretch” Werner, 43, of Broadway, Va., died Sept. 9, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 2, 1969, in Cumberland, Md., and was the son of Carol Reedy Showers of Broadway and John Walter Werner.
He was a heavy equipment operator for A&J Construction Company and had also worked for Veny’s Construction Company.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his girlfriend, Anne See of Broadway; one sister, Melinda Clemente of Mount Sidney; one nephew, Dakota Showers; one niece, Selena Clemente; one uncle, Gary Brown of Timberville; one aunt, Leona Reedy of Lost City, W.Va.; and a special friend, Sheldon Fitzwater of Broadway.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Peggy Reedy Patrick.
The Rev. Roger Austin will conduct a Celebration of Life service 2 p.m. Sunday at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the Plains Community Center in Timberville after the service.
The body was cremated.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Grandle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 114, Broadway, VA 22815 to help with funeral expenses.
