Terrie Dean values the art of good conversation. One of her favorite holiday pastimes is gathering around the kitchen table with relatives and simply talking for hours on end.
All I want for Christmas is normal.
Christena Lou Lambert Kisamore, 84, passed into glory on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Sunnyside’s Pannill Healthcare Center, where she had been lovingly cared for since March 2005.
She was born Aug. 1, 1928, at Cherry Grove, W.Va., the sixth of nine children of the late Troy Leslie and Elsie Byrd Lambert. She went to school in the Cherry Grove/Circleville area.
On Jan. 20, 1945, she married the love of her life, Roy Richard Kisamore, who preceded her in death on July 24, 2004, after 59 years of marriage.
Christena is survived by two daughters, Mary Anna Cline and husband, Franklin, and Dorothy Mae Lilly, both of Mount Crawford; two sons, Joseph Ray Kisamore and wife, Sharon, of Hinton, and Allen Dale Kisamore and wife, Terri, of Harrisonburg; nine grandchildren, Troy E. Cline and wife, Carol, Cathy Anne Skates, Diana Marie Lilly, Douglas Lilly and companion, Starla Raynes, Sharon K. Munoz, Allene (Beth) Stuart, Jennings D. Lambert Jr., Jonathan Scott Kisamore and Timothy Andrew Friend-Kisamore; 11 great-grandchildren, Eric and Curtis Cline, Corey Skates, David W. Lilly, Tish Baker, Christopher, Amanda, and Jessica May, Dalton, Kaylin and Jennings D. Lambert III; three sisters, Wilda Grace Bennett of Mouth of Seneca, W.Va., Evelyn Allen of Severna Park, Md., and Etta Katherine (Cootie) Shifflett of Millersville, Md.; and one brother, Forrest Ray Lambert of Baker, W.Va. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Geraldine and Clara Lambert and Virginia Barger; one brother, Jennings Dice Lambert; and her son-in-law, Donald M. “Jim” Lilly.
For most of her life, she cared for her home, her children and grandchildren, and her flowers. Places of employment at different times in her life were Stanley Home Products, Metro Pants, Belle Meade Restaurant and Peoples Drug Store.
Christena was an active member of Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren until her health declined. After his retirement, she and Roy operated a handcraft shop out of their basement for a number of years. Her children and grandchildren treasure the handmade Christmas ornaments she gave them each year. She was an avid reader and owned many books, the most important being her Bible, which she read each day. She also loved genealogy and had written an in house history of the Lambert family.
Pastor Henry Elsea Jr. and Chaplain Tom Smith will conduct a funeral service at the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the McMullen Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunnyside Employee Fund, 3935 Sunnyside Drive, Suite A, Harrisonburg, VA 22801, Attn: Kathryn Bennett, to honor the third floor health care staff and volunteers for their excellent care of Christena for the past 6½ years. Mother considered many of them dear friends, and we, the family, appreciate so much the love they showered on her.
