James E. Phillips

James Everett “Pete” Phillips of Harrisonburg, passed peacefully Oct. 10, 2012, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehab. He was born in Harrisonburg on March 30, 1934, the son of Everette Ernest Phillips and Pearl Courtney Phillips.
Pete is survived by three children, Ellen Phillips Thomas of Edinburg, Pete Phillips of Harrisonburg and Jennifer Carpenter of Christiansburg and enjoyed four grandchildren, Jessica Sheldon-Hess of Anchorage Alaska, Ian Hess of Edinburg, Va., Lauren Phillips of Harrisonburg and Ben Webster of Christiansburg.
On Aug. 2, 1952, he married Jane Carolyn Sandy, who preceded him in passing on Jan. 11, 2001.
Pete was a career mechanic, beginning at Rockingham Motor Co., working over 30 years at Truck and Equipment and Smith’s Transfer, retiring from Truck Thermo-King.  He was an avid woodworker and gardener.  Pete was a member of the West Rockingham Ruritan Club and Mount Clinton United Methodist Church.
Family and friends are welcome Saturday morning, Oct. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. to pay respects and sign the guest register at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
The family respectfully asks in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, 1700 Reservoir St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
