Johnnie W. Butzler

Johnnie Wayne Butzler, 76, of Bridgewater, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at his residence.

Johnnie was born in on Dec. 18, 1935, the son of the late Paul and Martha Frances (Wichael) Simmons.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator at the Virginia Department of Transportation. He attended Emmanuel Church of the Brethren in Mount Solon and was a graduate of the North River High School class of 1955.

On April 14, 1957, Johnnie was united in marriage to Joanne Verneda (Cupp) Butzler, who preceded him in death on April 15, 1998.

Johnnie is survived by a daughter, Gwen Butzler; and two sons, Mark W. Butzler and wife Sandy Butzler of Independence, Mo. and John Robert Butzler and wife Susan of Dayton. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Stephen Butzler, Brian Knight, Jessica Peters and Regina Campbell; one great granddaughter, Nevaeh Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 with the Rev. B. Eugene Shaver and the Rev. Randy Cosner officiating. Burial will follow at Sangerville Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday Nov. 17, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater or anytime at the home of his son John Butzler, 275 College Street in Dayton.
