Francis L. Horning

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Francis Lewis Horning, retired, 65, of Grottoes, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
 
Francis was born in Watertown, N.Y., Nov. 2, 1947, a son of the late Chester and Alice (Lewis) Horning.
 
Francis is survived by two daughters, Amy Smitherman and husband, Bill, of Grottoes, and Lisa Loudon and husband, Ed, of New York; three brothers, Richard Horning and wife, Carol, of Burbank, Calif., Robert Horning and companion, Mary, of Watertown, N.Y., and Johan Horning of the Netherlands. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Zac and Grayci Smitherman, and Sarah and Joshua Loudon.
 
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Mike, and Bill Horning.
 
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.
