Jerry M. Hammond

Jerry Mason Hammond, 75, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Clarrice Lucas Hammond, and a brother, Donald Hammond.

Mr. Hammond was a 1956 graduate of Virginia Tech. He had worked for Whetsel Seed Co. and the Dragon Corp. as a salesman before opening his own company, The Total Marketing Co. He was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth A. (Betty) Hammond; children, Mason Hammond and wife, Bridgett, of Pennsylvania, Susan Tabor and husband, Glenn, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Melinda Hammond Poulter of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jared Hammond, Madelenn Tabor, Matthew Poulter and Julia Tabor; brothers, James Hammond and wife, Joanna, of Texas, Michael Hammond and wife, Mary Margaret, of Manassas; and sister, Rebecca Delawder and husband, Gary, of Weyers Cave.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Philip Lutheran Church, 8115 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at St. Philip Lutheran Church by Pastor David Derrick. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke.
