Doris J. Rhodes

Doris Jean Rhodes was born July 26, 1927, in Harrisonburg, Va., and attended the city schools. She also attended Madison College (now James Madison University) and graduated with a degree in biology. After several years of work as a biochemist, she graduated from the School of Medical Technology at MCV (now VCU) in Richmond. She was then employed by the state of Virginia as a chemist/analyst in the MCV Hospital until retirement.

She last resided at Cedarfield Retirement Community until her death on Dec. 24, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Percy S. and Mary Arey Rhodes, and is survived by one brother, Harold and his wife, Myra, of Miramar Beach, Fla. There are two nieces, Marcia Pittman and Amy Barrett; two grandnieces, Hannah Pittman and Rebekah Barrett; and one grandnephew, Hunter Pittman.

Funeral services will be held at St. Michael’s United Church of Christ in Augusta County, Va., on Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
