Evelyn V. Cain

Evelyn Virginia Collins Cain, 89, widow of Homer Boyd Cain of Staunton, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.

She was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Staunton, a daughter of the late James Arthur and Ora Crum Collins.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Cain was employed by C&P Telephone Company with 42 years of service as a plant manager’s clerk.

She attended Dunsmore Business College and was a graduate of Elizabeth Brandt School of Business. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Juliet Collins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Harry Johns.

 At her request, the casket will be closed and there will be no public viewing.

Friends may sign the register book from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick St., Staunton, Va.
