Lettie Stickley shows colorful exuberance when describing Grand Caverns in Grottoes, using only two words to get her point across. “Absolutely beautiful,” she boasted. “It’s absolutely beautiful here.”
Andrea “Andy” Rae Walker-Myers, loving wife, mother, grandmother, nurse and friend, passed away Jan. 6, 2013, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 26, 1941, in Welch, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Raymond A. Walker and Mary A. “Billie” Birklebach Walker.
Andy graduated from Welch High School in 1959 and the Lewis-Gale Hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke in 1962. She loved her career and was employed for 28 years with RMH and five years with Sunnyside HealthCare. She retired from nursing in 1996. She was a member of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren and past member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church. She was also a past member of Wayland Woman’s Club and a volunteer for Reach for Recovery.
On Aug. 17, 1963, she married Richard W. “Wayne” Myers, who survives.
Andy is also survived by her children, Kenneth Myers and wife, Jodi, of Mount Sidney, Michael Myers and wife, Kelly, of Penn Laird, and Karen Myers Martin of Penn Laird; grandchildren (the joy of her life), Brendan Myers, Casey Myers, Selah Myers, Kendal Myers and Tyler Martin; brother, David Walker and wife, Jennifer, of Hilton Head, S.C.; niece, Lesley Miller and family of Williamsburg; aunt and uncle, Charles and Nell Miller of Harrisonburg; uncle, Rodney Walker of Clearwater, Fla.; and several special cousins and many special friends.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren in Port Republic with Pastors Lee Kinsey and Paul O’Gorek officiating. Friends may call the home of Wayne Myers anytime.
