Russell Bradley Chewning

Russell Bradley Chewning, 43, of Harrisonburg, died of congenital heart failure on Jan. 8, 2013. He was born in Radford, Va., on Nov. 16, 1969, to Bradley and Mary Ellen Chewning.

He is survived by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Russell Moore of Stafford, Va.; and five nieces and nephews, Nathan, Grace, Sam, Sarah and William Moore.

Russell worked for Hardee’s of Harrisonburg for 21 years after graduating from Harrisonburg High. He spent many years in Special Olympics, playing on the softball, volleyball, and basketball teams. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV and attending JMU basketball games. He was a member of the Shenandoah Valley Athletic Club and the JMU Crown Club.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Kyger Funeral Home, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 205 S. Main St., Harrisonburg.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Wilderness Baptist Church Cemetery, 9701 Plank Road in Spotsylvania, Va.
