Carroll E. Knupp Sr., 66, of Mount Crawford, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Carroll was born July 20, 1946, in Rockingham County. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruby (Fitzwater) Knupp.
On Dec. 24, 1964, he married Mary L. Baker, formerly of Milwaukee, Wis.
Carroll is also survived by his daughter, Jean White of Waynesboro, son-in-law Jeff White and stepgrandson, Alex White; and son, Carroll E. Knupp II of McGaheysville, daughter-in-law, Tiffany Knupp, and two grandchildren, Abby and Tim Knupp. Also surviving are his brothers, Charles Knupp of Broadway, Donnie Knupp of Linville, Jack Knupp and Gary Knupp of Harrisonburg; sisters, Barbara Green of Harrisonburg and Debbie Showalter of Port Republic; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carroll was a lifetime member of Harrisonburg Hose Company No. 4 and a state and national member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 13. For more than 20 years, Carroll volunteered as a master hunter safety instructor with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He was also an I.B.E.P. bowhunter instructor. Carroll served his community as a law-enforcement and corrections officer and most recently as a member of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary.
The family will receive friends at Kyger Funeral Home of Harrisonburg on Sunday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. with internment following at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
