Trevor C. Banks

Trevor Cordel Banks, 26, of Harrisonburg, Va., went home to be with the Lord surrounded by loved ones on Jan. 22, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., after a brave battle with PTSD.

Trevor was born Feb. 10, 1986, in Harrisonburg, Va. He was a son of Felicia Banks Thomas and Robert L. “Bobby” Harper Jr., both of Harrisonburg.

Trevor graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 2004, he went on to serve his country as a member of the National Guard, 116th Infantry — Alpha Co., 3rd Battalion for six years and served in Iraq from 2007 to 2008. He was self-employed as a barber for many years and was a dedicated friend to many.

In addition to his parents, Trevor is survived by his son, Xavier Banks; his daughter, Imani Banks and their mother, Jennifer Millitch; brothers, Malcolm Thomas and Robert Harper III, both of Harrisonburg; sisters, Kerine Thomas of New Jersey, Shanice and Shauna Phillips of Harrisonburg and Gloria Thomas of Delaware; maternal grandfather, Elmer C. Banks of Harrisonburg; paternal grandmother, Doris H. Allen of Harrisonburg; uncles, Carlton Banks and wife, Shelia, and Con Banks and wife, Alison, all of Harrisonburg, William “Billo” Harper and wife, Thandi, of Maryland; aunt, Belinda Harper of Georgia; a special friend, Charla Whitelow of Harrisonburg; and a host of great aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, c/o Carlye Whitelow, 100 Mount Crawford Ave., Bridgewater, VA 22812.

The family would also like to thank Andrew “Shack” Curry and Ashby Jackson for all of their love and support of Trevor.
