Terrie Dean values the art of good conversation. One of her favorite holiday pastimes is gathering around the kitchen table with relatives and simply talking for hours on end.
All I want for Christmas is normal.
Betty Lou “Mom Beck” Morrison, 83, of Shenandoah, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Willow Estates in Harrisonburg.
Betty Lou was born in Shenandoah on Dec. 17, 1929, and was the daughter of the late John T. and Eula McAlister Camden.
She was a graduate of Shenandoah High School and Shenandoah College in Dayton. Betty was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Ladies’ Auxiliary for the Shenandoah Fire Department and the VFW Post 8613 Women’s Auxiliary. She worked as an Avon representative for 30 years and also worked at the Shenandoah Knitting Mill. She had a good sense of humor and loved playing Bingo, Cards and Sequence.
On Aug. 22, 1949, she married James E. “Daddy Jim” Morrison, who preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2001.
Betty is survived by one son, Thomas E. Morrison and wife, Kathy, of Mount Jackson; three daughters, Debbie S. Burton and husband, Kevin, of Shenandoah, Jimmie Lou Engleman and husband, Ron, of Staunton, and Mendy Armentrout of Shenandoah and friend, Greg Hensley, of McGaheysville; a special daughter, Vanessa Cubbage of Elkton; 14 grandchildren, Lisa Miller, James Dulaney, David Berry, Chuckie Berry, J.T. Berry, Jeri Pugh, Kris Morrison, April Breeden, Bub Morrison, Andi Burton, Jack Burton, Molly Burton, Lamond Morrison and Tyrell Morrison; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. Burial will follow at the Methodist Cemetery in Shenandoah.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends may call at the Morrison home anytime.
