Othel ‘Clegg’ Hensley

Othel “Clegg” Hensley, 88, of Elkton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hensley was born April 21, 1924, in Rockingham County near Elkton to the late Worthy D. and Vada Eppard Hensley.

Clegg attended the Fox Mountain School. He had previously worked for Dean Lumber Co., RanMar, and retired from B.K. Haynes. He was a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed working on the sawmill, farming, horses, mules, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his family very much and taking rides with his wife.

On Jan. 21, 1944, he married Gladys Mary “Pearl” Shifflett Hensley, who preceded him in death April 10, 2010. He is survived by a son, Eugene R. Hensley and wife, Sherry, of Elkton; a daughter, Mary Jean Lawson and husband, Randolph, of Elkton; seven grandchildren, Rodney Hensley and wife, Jennifer, Chris Hensley and wife, Elizabeth, Hollie Lam and husband, Josh, Randolph Lawson Jr. and wife, Marla, Shelia Gibson and husband, Kenny, Danny Lawson, and Darrell Lawson and wife, Tina; 14 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Kirby and Hoover Hensley; sisters, Ressie Huddle, Velma Anderson and (infant) Iona Hensley.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Jimmy Kite and the Rev. Brad Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Run Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday (tonight) at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Hensley home at anytime.
