Joseph F. Claypool Jr.

Joseph Francis “Joe” Claypool Jr., 43, of Weyers Cave, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.

Joe was born Feb. 8, 1970, in Centralia, Ill., and was the son of Deatra Cordes and Joseph Claypool Sr., and wife, Susan.

He was a 1988 graduate of Prattville High School in Prattville, Ala., and then went on to join the U.S. Navy from 1988 to 1992. He served on the USS Theodore Roosevelt during Desert Storm. Joe was a professional bowler; bowling was his passion in life along with hunting and fishing with his family. He was previously employed by Best Buy in Staunton and most recently was employed with Americold in Boise, Idaho.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Kyle Andrew Wallace Claypool; one daughter, Skylar Elizabeth Shanafelt Claypool; one sister, Jennifer Testa; a cousin, Daniel Claypool, who was like a brother; and numerous cousins and extended family.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Market, Va., with the Rev. Hollis Dodge officiating.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project at 1120 G St., NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005.
