Mary Therese Fetherolf

Beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Therese Hiss Asplund Fetherolf, 87, went to be with the Lord in the early morning of Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the Bridgewater Nursing Home.
 
Mary was born on Aug. 6, 1925, in South Bend, Ind., to Ulrich Joseph (UJ) and Mary Catherine (Lewis) Hiss. She moved to Coral Gables, Fla., as an infant, and was raised there with her seven brothers and sisters. She married Stanley Edward Asplund on Dec. 9, 1945. Over the years, they lived in Pasadena and Coronado, Calif., Ithaca, N.Y., and Miami and Tallahassee, Fla. They settled in Northern Virginia in 1960. Stan Asplund passed away in 1966. She married Mitchell William (Bill) Fetherolf on Aug. 5, 1967. Bill passed away in 1994 in Arlington Va. Mary lived in Arlington from 1963 until 1995. She moved to Bridgewater in 1995 and lived on Meadow Lane in Maple Terrace in Gardner Wing, and finally in the nursing home.
 
She is survived by her five daughters from her first marriage and two stepchildren from her second marriage: Mary Lou (Jim) Lofgren, Denver, Colo.; Kathie (Mike) Munson, Terre Haute, Ind.; Dan Fetherolf, Woodbridge, Va.; Mary Fetherolf-Dame, Germany; Linda (Frank) Doherty, Penn Laird, Va.; Patty Asplund of Dayton, Va.; and Carol (Kirk) Divers of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by one sister, Jane Walsh of Decatur, Ga.; a brother, Don (Ann) Hiss of Temple Terrace, Fla.; her dear friend, Dr. Bob Smith of Bridgewater; and nine beloved grandchildren: Michael and Kristina Munson; Joe, John and Patrick Doherty; Justin (Nomugi) and William (Julie) Dame; and Philip and Hannah Divers.
 
A memorial service will be held in the Lantz Chapel at Bridgewater Retirement Community at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, followed by a reception at Houff Community Center, also in Bridgewater Retirement Community.
