Helen E. Shifflett

Helen Elizabeth Shifflett, 88, of Grottoes, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family.
 
Helen was born in Rockingham County on May 11, 1924, and was a daughter of the late Elmer Roy and Cora Alice (Michael) Long. She worked at Padgett Manufacturing in Bridgewater and was a member of Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene.
 
She was married in 1940 to Clarence Edward Ritchie Jr., and later to Lloyd A. Shifflett in 1967.
 
Helen is survived by seven daughters, Carolyn Chadwick and husband, Ralph, of Warren, Ark., Janice Rexrode and husband, Paul, of Staunton, Joyce Good and husband, Joe, of Harrisonburg, Alice Ritchie of Grottoes, Shelby Allman and husband, Gary, of Bridgewater, Cindy Mace and husband, Bobby, of Port Republic, and Kay Lee and husband, Rick, of Harrisonburg; a son, Gary “Butter” Ritchie and wife, Judy, of Harrisonburg; daughter-in-law, Diane Ritchie of Grottoes; two sisters, Madge Click of Bridgewater and Phyllis Miller of Bridgewater; two brothers, Robert Long of Bridgewater and Harold Long of Bridgewater. She is also survived by 44 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
She is preceded in death by two sons, Donald L. and Clarence “Eddie” Ritchie; granddaughter, Sheila Reeves; brother, Elmer Long Jr.; and four sisters, Boots Trammel, Lucille Ruleman, Lela Howdyshell Holsinger and Vera Curry.
 
A funeral service will be conducted at noon Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Margaret Michael and Jim Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
 
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
 
Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes is entrusted with arrangements.
