Alvin Vandell Chambliss Sr.

Alvin Vandell Chambliss Sr., 55, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Saturday morning, Feb. 23, 2013.

A son of the late Elgin Lowery and Annie Chambliss, he was born on Oct. 6, 1957, in Sussex, Va., and graduated from Sussex Central High School. Mr. Chambliss moved to Harrisonburg in 2001 and was employed by Classic Distributors and also Papa John’s Pizza. He attended the First Assembly of God Church.

On Aug. 11, 1979, he married Valarie (Taylor), Chambliss, who survives him.

Also surviving are a daughter, Angel Chambliss of Harrisonburg; a son, Corey Taylor and his wife, Francis, of Killeen, Texas at Fort Hood; granddaughters, Jakia Chambliss, Jalexus Huffman, Adoesha Taylor, Amari Taylor and Ashanta Taylor. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Jenna Huffman; a brother, Donzell Chambliss of Sussex, Va.; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Chambliss Jr., and grandson, Furious Chambliss.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, from the First Assembly of God with Pastor Jeff Ferguson officiating. Interment will be in Newtown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
