Dorothy Koontz Craun, 94, of Weyers Cave, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Bridgewater Home.
She was born in Weyers Cave on Oct. 27, 1918, and was a daughter of the late Lurty Marvin and Rhoda (Showalter) Koontz.
Dorothy was a retired aide at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. She graduated from Weyers Cave High School, class of 1934. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, and all types of handwork.
She was united in marriage to Cecil Franklin Craun, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Ann Craun of Harrisonburg; a son, Benny Franklin Craun of Staunton; a sister, Dolores Sayre of Fishersville; and a brother, Lester Koontz of Lexington, S.C. She is also survived by grandson, Ashley Christopher Craun and wife, Shari, and great- grandson, Bradley Thomas Craun.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Gail C. Craun, and a sister, Nancy Gay Koontz.
A memorial service will be held at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, with the Rev. Christopher D. Carr officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater and following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall. The casket will be closed.
