Ronald J. Metzger

Ronald James Metzger, 79, of Bridgewater, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Cumberland, Md., on Jan. 13, 1934, and was a son of the late Duncan Leroy and Jessie (Hammersmith) Metzger.

Ronnie worked in the engineering department at Walker Manufacturing for 32 years, retiring in January 1993. He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was united in marriage on Nov. 4, 1961, to Margie (Young) Metzger of Bridgewater, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a sister, Jacqueline Metzger Kensey of Spring Hill, Fla.; a brother, Randy Michael Metzger of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; an aunt, Ruth Dye of Cumberland, Md.; and many nieces, nephews and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, with the Rev. Christopher D. Carr officiating. Burial will be private.

The family received friends Sunday, May 5, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cemetery Upkeep Fund, P.O. Box 38, Mount Sidney, VA 24467, or a charity of choice.
