Judith ‘Judy’ A.H. Ringgold

Judith “Judy” Ann Hollen Ringgold, 75, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at White Birch Estates in Harrisonburg.

Judy was born in Rockingham County, Va., on June 26, 1938, and was a daughter of the late Ora Daniel Sr. and Effie Lee Dove Hollen.

She graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1956 and from Bridgewater College in 1959. She retired from the Rockingham County School system, where she worked as an elementary school teacher for 20 years. Judy was a member of the Montezuma Church of the Brethren, where she served as church organist, deacon and Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed volunteering at RMH and Hospice.

Judy was united in marriage on June 26, 1959, to Donald Lee Ringgold of Dayton, who survives. The couple recently observed their 54th anniversary.

Judy is also survived by a son, Andrew “Andy” Ringgold of Mount Sidney and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Cheeks of Grottoes; a daughter, Ann R. Rainard and husband, David, of Dayton; a brother, Ora “Danny” Daniel Hollen Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Bridgewater; four grandchildren, Bryan Alexander Ringgold and Rachel Ann Ringgold, both of Mount Sidney, and Erin Marie Rainard and Philip Daniel Rainard, both of Dayton; and her mother-in-law, Ethel Liskey Ringgold of Bridgewater.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, July 5, at 7 p.m. at Montezuma Church of the Brethren with Pastor David R. Miller officiating. There will be a private burial at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
