Jerry L. Chandler

Jerry Lee Chandler, 75, of Mount Crawford, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.
He was born in Rockingham County on Oct. 12, 1937, and was a son of Hattie (Shull) Chandler of Mount Crawford, and the late Wilbur Glen Chandler.
Jerry had worked at Ethan Allen and was a retired contractor. He was a member of Victory Fellowship Church in Dayton. He had served in the U.S. Army, was a life member of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company, where he was a past president, and was a member of the Dayton American Legion Post No. 27. He was an avid hunter and loved to play bingo.
He was united in marriage on Feb. 8, 1958, to Carolyn Faye (Layman) Chandler, who died on Sept. 5, 2008.
In addition to his mother, Jerry is survived by a son, Tony Chandler (Maura) of Clermont, Fla.; four grandchildren, Stacey Griffith, Todd Griffith, Ryan Chandler and Christy Chandler; and his fiancée, Carolyn Price.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Glen “Buddy” Chandler.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Victory Fellowship Church in Dayton, with the Rev. W.L. (Sonny) Henkel officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridgewater, with military rites conducted by Dayton American Legion Post No. 27.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.
