James ‘Spud’ Mitchell

James “Spud” Mitchell, 71, of Waynesboro, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at his home. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., on Sept. 20, 1942; he was preceded in death by his parents.
 
Jim was retired from Smith Transfer and RPS. He was an avid golfer at Waynesboro Country Club.
 
He is survived by his wife, Lodeana Mitchell; two daughters, Nancy Sheets and her spouse, Scott, of Harrisonburg and Cathy Ritchie and her spouse, Andy, of New Market; three stepchildren, Reo Hatfield III and his spouse, Amber, of Virginia Beach, Aimee Hatfield and her spouse, Brian Riddle, of Waynesboro and Brandi Bane and her spouse, Jason, of Waynesboro; 16 grandchildren, Brian, Cody, Morgan, Cassie, Ashley, Nick, Piper, Alexis, Mikayla, Jada, Nathan, Ty, Reo IV, Mia, Keller and Branson.
 
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, in  the Chapel of the Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive (formerly Goose Creek Road) Fishersville, conducted by Pastor Tim McIntosh. Private burial will be held at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
