Elwood A. Secrist

Elwood Alton Secrist, 80, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Secrist was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Alton J. and Ruby Horn Secrist.
 
Mr. Secrist served as a military policeman from December 1953 to December 1955. He then went on to work at Cassco Ice for over 40 years.
 
On Oct. 23, 1953, he married his wife of 60 years, Margaret Whitmer, who survives.
 
Surviving family are granddaughter, Kimberly D. Secrist of Harrisonburg; sister, Wanda Secrist Gibson and husband, Charles, of Charlottesville, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Wayne Secrist, and two brothers, George Wayne Secrist of Harrisonburg, and Charles William “Bill” Secrist of Clover Hill.
 
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22, 2013, at Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with pastor A.D. Tice officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Funeral Home.
