Irene Eye Allamong

WINCHESTER, Va. – Irene Allamong, 89, passed away on July 13, 2014, at The Willows at Meadow Branch. Mrs. Allamong was born in Franklin, W.Va., to George H. Eye and Mary E. Moyers on June 3, 1925. She was one of 10 brothers and sisters who have all predeceased her. Her first son, Leroy Waybright, also has predeceased her.

Survivors include her husband, Delwyn Allamong of Winchester, Va.; daughter, Donna Ishmael (Timothy) of St. Simons Island, Ga.; son, Rick Allamong of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; two grandchildren, Becky Rocha and Michelle Waybright; and four great- grandchildren, Dalton Rocha, Maddison Rocha, Tyler Rocha and Kallyn Waybright.

Mrs. Allamong moved to The Willows in March of 2011. The family is grateful for the daily care and comfort provided by The Willows staff during her three-year residence.  She began receiving hospice care in July 2013 and the family is also grateful for the tender care the hospice caregivers gave to Irene.

Mrs. Allamong loved to crochet and especially making beautiful quilts for family members and friends. She loved to host ladies morning gatherings, where a craft project was the activity. Cooking and baking cakes was something that gave her much joy. Her rum cakes were always very popular.

Interment will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
