Christmas 'Belles'
PAL Players Dinner Theater Kicks Off Holiday Season This Weekend By Benjamin Weathers
LURAY — A church Christmas pageant, an ailing Santa Claus and three squabbling sisters. That's the recipe for disaster in the PAL Players production of “Christmas Belles,” which premieres this Friday evening, Nov. 20, at the BB&T Center for the Performing Arts, as part of a special "Dinner Theater."
This year's production is the highly-anticipated sequel to last year's Christmas play, “Dearly Beloved,” by playwrights Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. According to director Claire Comer, the theater company was eager to bring last year's characters back to the stage.
"These characters were so much fun for our actors and our audience [that] we immediately looked into doing the sequel," said Comer. "[The audience] just really loved these characters and the people that play them."
Players Diane Dovel, Patressa Kearns and Layne Vickers will revive the parts of the Futrelle sisters, who face a whole new litany of problems this time around.
Honey Raye Futrelle (played by Dovel) attempts to direct a Christmas pageant that is quickly spinning out of control. Adding to the chaos are Honey Raye's sisters — Frankie (played by Kearns), who is currently overdue with twins, and Twink (Vickers) currently out on work release from the local jail.
