OBITUARIES

Allen Lee Dean

Allen Lee Dean, 41, of Elkton, died on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1968, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Dempsey Odell and Beulah Meadows Dean.

Mr. Dean worked for Tenneco Corp. for the past year as a setup operator. He was also employed by the Daily News-Record for the past 10 years as a bulk carrier.

He is survived by his fiancée, Deneene Rice of Elkton; two daughters, Kristen Dean of Elkton, and Amber Rice of Harrisonburg; a brother, Gary Dean of Elkton; and two sisters, Debbie Robinson of Shenandoah, and Barbara Simmons of Harrisonburg.

A funeral service was conducted on Friday, Oct. 30, at Grace Fellowship Church in Shenandoah by the Rev. Wayne Comer. Burial was in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.

Earl Eugene “Jack” Huffman

Earl Eugene “Jack” Huffman, 79, of Luray, died on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009.

He was born on Oct. 30, 1930, in Luray and was a son of the late Lloyd Clifford and Louise Fannie Somers Huffman.

Mr. Huffman was a farmer and cattle truck driver. He was a member of the Beth Eden Lutheran Church.

On Dec. 23, 1951, he married the former Irene Catherine Ellis, who died on March 22, 2006.

He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Moyer of Stanley, and Donna Gochenour and Patty Dodson, both of Luray; a son, Earl W. Huffman of Luray; a brother, James R. Huffman of Stephens City; four sisters, Betty Jean Long, Mary Lou Hoefling and Sharon L. Dovel, all of Penn Laird, and Barbara Ann Moyer of Luray; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. James R. Daley. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray.



Terry Michael “Tex” Dean

Terry Michael “Tex” Dean, 56, of Alexandria, died on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Dean was born on Jan. 17, 1953, in Page County and was a son of the late Edward Earl “Eddie” Dean Sr. and Myrtle Mae Yager Dean.

He is survived by four brothers, Eddie Earl Dean Jr. and Gregory Lynn Dean, both of Alexandria, and Richard Allen Dean of Woodbridge and Robert Orsinger; one daughter, Michelle Harrison; and four nephews.

A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shenandoah by the Rev. Gerald Meeks and the Rev. Mike Reynolds. Burial was in the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.

Eugene Poincare Brubaker

Eugene Poincare Brubaker, 92, of Luray, died on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Page Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1917, in Luray and was a son of the late Jesse William and Mary Rebecca Gander Brubaker.

Mr. Brubaker was a police officer for the town of Luray for 20 years and was also a farmer. He was a Navy veteran, having served during World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years, Christine Lam Brubaker, are a daughter, Jean B. Moyer of Luray; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman C. Brubaker; six brothers, Oscar William, Elmo V., George B., Louis S., Rufus M. and Willis G. Brubaker; and three sisters, Alice L. Brubaker, Elizabeth B. Gooch and Ressie L. Kauffman.

A graveside service was conducted on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas Rothgeb.



Tammy Jill Rudolph Grimsley

Tammy Jill Rudolph Grimsley, 48, passed away peacefully October 31, 2009, at her home in Shenandoah, surrounded by her husband, daughters and siblings.  Tammy fought a courageous 17-month battle with cancer and is now with our Lord.

Tammy was born May 3, 1961, to the late Carl E. and Mary S. Rudolph of Shenandoah. On February 23, 1985, Tammy married the love of her life, Jeffrey S. Grimsley, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by three daughters to whom she devoted her life, Andrea Grimsley of Shenandoah, Stephanie Richards and husband Dakota, of Stanley, and Bethany Price and husband Brandon, of Clarksville, Tenn.  Also surviving are her two beautiful grandchildren, Dawson Douglas Scott Richards and Chloe Mira Jill Price. Tammy was the youngest of her seven brothers and sisters, who also survive.

In addition to spending time with her loved ones, Tammy also enjoyed listening to bluegrass and gospel music, taking vacations to Cape Hatteras, N.C., and reading scripture from her Bible. Tammy took pride in her community and was involved in various organizations throughout her life. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, an associate member of the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Department and was the secretary for Food For Friends in Shenandoah.  Tammy touched the lives of many people and will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion towards others.

Funeral services were held at Christ United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 3, at 11 a.m. Burial followed at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Monday, November 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church.

Effie Duaine Meadows

Effie Duaine Meadows, 91, of Elkton, died on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at the Life Care Center in New Market.

She was born on Oct. 18, 1918, in the Jollett area of Elkton and was a daughter of the late Comie Milton and Goldie McDaniel Watson.

Mrs. Meadows was a lifetime resident of the Jollett area of Page County and attended the Jollett School. She was a homemaker and member of the Jollett United Methodist Church. 

On March 9, 1935, she married Howard Franklin Meadows, who died on Nov. 3, 1994.

She is survived by a son, Dallas E. Meadows of Elkton; four daughters, Agnes R. Davis and Lanie Elizabeth Knight, both of Elkton, Doris J. Winn of Blackstone, and Sandra M. Dinges of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Douglas Watson of Harrisonburg, and Avis Watson of Grottoes; a sister, Dahlia Watson of Luray; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eunice Bell Meadows; a son, Philip R. Meadows Sr.; seven brothers, Nathan, Floyd, Dennis, Roy, Ray, Nelson and Dan Watson; and four sisters, Irma Meadows, Nina Watson, Georgia Hine Wilson and Elsie Meadows.

A graveside service was conducted on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Jollett Cemetery in Page County near Elkton by the Rev. Ray Eppard.
