I love, love, love JAKO! The food is amazing, the restaurant is beautiful and the service is friendly and anticipatory -- my drink never failed to get below half full, my dirty plates were cleared immediately, and the waitress was pleasant and kind. I order takeout ALL the time but a visit to the restaurant is a must!

What a great little place! Cafe' Jako has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. You don't feel intimidated ordering sushi you've never seen before, and the sushi chef greets you right as you come in. The presentation is beautiful as well as the flavor. A must.

If you ever have a chance to sit and watch the sushi being made be sure and ask for the "Chef's favorite." It is delish! (Just like everything else in this restaurant.) The sushi is simply incredible.

Not just that the sushi is great, the kitchen menu is great too (especially the teriyaki!! and lounch specials too) when I went there with my family, the staff prrovided great hopsitality and service, I really enjoy eating at the restaraunt, the only downside is that the restaraunt is small, but that doesn't stop me from going You should try it out

Both the friendly, efficient service of the knowledgeable staff and the flavor--oh, the flavor!--of the food in this charming, no frills restaurant puts just about every other Japanese restaurant in the country to shame. This is about the best. We eat there as often as we can even though we have to drive over 30 minutes to get there. It's well worth the trip! Thanks for the treat!

This is the best sushi restaurant ever~!! the food, service, and the japanese beers are so good and thirst quenching. oh oh, and esp. the dragon roll is the best~~ I ordered a P.3 (party platter) for my family, and everyone loved it!! oh yeah, and for the most recent review submitted by Kris, I agree with you on the food part, but miso soup doesn't contain chicken broth..it actually has nothing to do with chicken..it's made out of soybean paste.

  Comments: best in town
Finally we don't have to leave town to have good sushi! Get a large platter to try everything. Soon's original rolls are great, so go ahead and ask for whatever it is that he's created recently. My only complaint is that the miso soup is not made with a dashi base, but uses chicken broth instead..now it isn't bad, but i prefer a more traditional miso. Still i give them a 5 star rating, because the food is good all across the board. Try the pan fried udon!!!

Comments: Best sushi that I've ever had
What sets Cafe Jako's sushi apart is its quality and delicious flavor. I have been to at least a dozen different sushi restaurants on both the east and west coast, but I still find myself coming back to Cafe Jako.

We eat at CAFE JAKO' once a week. The food is awesome and the sevice is wonderful. Each visit brings a new taste of Sushie and Koren dishes that we look forward too. Soon and his wife treat every customer as if they have all ways known them, and really take the time to make you feel at home and helpful with any questions that you could have about their wonderful menu. We wish you both the best of luck and will see you this week.

Hello I'm Soon Hong the owner of the restaraunt. The phone number listed at the top is wrong. The correct number is 540-434-7278 thank you for the support, we promise better service and better food. From Editor: We've made the change. Your phone number now shows correctly.

Comments: thankfully, a great sushi place
Originally from NJ, I have spent the last 3 years looking for a good sushi place that is within driving distance. We stumbled upon Cafe JAKO and have been hooked ever since!!! Awesome, fresh sushi!!! Soon (the owner), lets you know what is fresh-and makes things to order. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Soon is very friendly and always smiling. It is nice to have some good ethnic food coming to the area-I only wish he would come to Staunton-have to try!!!

Comments: Fantastic sushi and great selection!
We tried the lunchbox special at the sushi bar. You really can't complain about 18 peices of sushi for $7.50. All hand made right in front of you. It's a perfect lunch. Their menu also has lots of options. Their teriaki chicken has noodles the size of drinking straws. Their so thick! The inside looks like it was painted by a 12 year old, with a mural of the ocean stretching all the way to the back of the store. But that's the only complaint. The tables are set up beautifully and the menus are very nice and not made of laminated paper or anything. The staff is very friendly and even cleaned up a small spill that we made while we were eating. A lost tradition in restaurants these days. I would recommend the sushi bar and the meals. It's a nice take on Asian food in Harrisonburg and a nice break from the also fantastic China Express (where I used to work).
