After 29 Years, Gay Mitchell Leaves Her Classroom

Gay Mitchell holds a little girl on her lap as she fondly speaks about a boy who sang himself to sleep at naptime each day almost 29 years ago. He was in her first class at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Child Day Care Center in the basement of Asbury United Methodist Church on Main Street. She started working there on May 5, 1980, nervous and unsure of what to expect, but fell in love with her first group of 2-year-olds, "a very special group." She still remembers most of their names....
