Janice Rachel Temple Batten
NEW MARKET - Mrs. Janice Rachel Temple Batten, 86, died on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg.
She was born on May 2, 1923, in Zebulon, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Chambus and Jenny Tippett Temple.
Mrs. Batten graduated from Wakelon High School and was a retired supervisor for AT&T. She attended the Wood\'s Chapel Independent Bible Church.
She is survived by a son, Lockwood Jaye Batten of Cape Coral, Fla.; two daughters, Jenny Marie Hambleton of Cape Corral, Fla. and Faye Peery of New Market; two sisters, Ann Brantley of Zebulon, N.C. and Barbara Lane of Halifax; two brothers, Wayne Temple of Chesapeake and Joseph Temple of Coats, N.C.; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Wood\'s Chapel Independent Bible Church in New Market with the Rev. Glen Turner officiating. |

John Steven Blank IV
NEW MARKET - John Steven Blank IV, 69, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Life Care Center, New Market.
He is survived by three sons, John Blank V of New Market and Cecil Blank and Christopher Blank.
Mr. Blank was a retired appliance repair man and Navy veteran.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Mar. 5, 1:30 p.m., at the Victory Church in Camden Arkansas. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery in Warren Arkansas under the direction of Frazer\'s Funeral Home in Warren. |

Rubye Parker McKinney Gold
WOODSTOCK - Rubye Parker McKinney Gold, 94, died on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Greenfield, Woodstock.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1915, in Brunot, Miss., and was a daughter of Pinkney Evans and Mary Sitz White.
Mrs. Gold worked as a property management executive when she lived in Northern Virginia and was an active member of IREM and Toastmistress. Her involvement in organizations while she lived in the Valley included Eastern Star, the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Auxiliary “Follies,” and the Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband, Frank K. Gold; children: Anne Parker Sheetz of Edinburg; Robert Ray Parker of Alexandria and Basye; Neil McKinney of Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eight brothers and sisters; her first husband, Robert Vernon Parker; her second husband, W. O. “Mac” McKinney; and a stepson, Joe McKinney.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Mar. 6, at 2 p.m., at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock with Pastor Lisa Webb officiating.

Marguerite Hollar
EDINBURG - Marguerite Hollar, 94, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Consulate Health Care in Woodstock.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1915, at Columbia Furnace, and was a daughter of the late Bernie and Mollie Fadely Coffelt.
Mrs. Hollar was a lifelong member of St. Luke Brethren Church for 82 years.
On Dec. 31,1932, she married Robert Hollar, who passed away in 1964.
She is survived by two daughters, Fleta Wood of Woodstock, and Bonnie Barrick of Edinburg; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a step great grandson; and a great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her brothers Milton, Joe and Edgar.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 2, at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock, with the Reverend Anthony Keim officiating. Burial was in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Lorraine Ann Lichliter
STAR TANNERY - Lorraine Ann Lichliter, 61, died on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at her residence.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1948, in Warren County, and was a daughter of the late Haywood Wilson Wines and Sybil Elizabeth Fox.
Mrs. Lichliter was a former employee of International Automotive Components of Strasburg where she was a machine operator. She was a member of the Strasburg Chapter No. 1319 Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her husband, William G. “Willie” Lichliter of Star Tannery; a son Robert Lee Pennington of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; step-daughter, Aarika Butts of Clear Brook; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Wines of Front Royal; and a sister, Teresa Magalis of Front Royal. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann Burke, and a sister, Linda Thompson.
A funeral service was conducted on Friday, Feb. 26, at Stover Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Edward P. Winkler officiating.

Agnes Crabill Ludwig Linn
MIDDLETOWN - Agnes Crabill Ludwig Linn, 95, of Middletown, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Lynn Care Center, Front Royal.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1914, in Strasburg, and was a daughter of the late Howard L. and Carrie Hinkins Crabill.
Mrs. Linn was a member of Strasburg Presbyterian Church, a homemaker and a retired receptionist for the law firm of Kirkendall, Whiting, Costello and Haynes, Winchester. She was the wife of the late Marcus H. Linn.
She is survived by her sons, Carrol S. Ludwig of Richmond and Ronald C. Ludwig of Shawsville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, four brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, Mar. 3, at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church with the Reverend David Howard and the Reverend Jeff Rose officiating. Burial was in the Strasburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Julia Evans Zehring Nelson
WINCHESTER - Julia Evans Zehring Nelson, 96, died on Tuesday, Mar. 2, 2010.
She was born in 1913, in Mount Jackson, and was a daughter of the late Laura R. and Alfred R. Evans.
Mrs. Nelson was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Mount Jackson, the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Guild, and the VA Federation of Garden Clubs. She was also a member of the Shenandoah Co. Retired Teachers Association, the Mount Jackson Book Club, the Mount Jackson Community Library, the Shenandoah Co. Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Mount Jackson Garden Club. She was a graduate of James Madison University and taught in the Shenandoah County schools for thirty-four years.
She was the widow of Noble R. Zehring and Senator Burgess E. Nelson.
She is survived by a daughter, Jacquelyn Whiton Zehring of Winchester; and two sisters, Antoinette Evans Rudolph of Wilmington, N.C. and Leila Evans Miley of Winchester. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred R. Evans, Jr., and a sister, Bertie Roller Callan.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Mar. 6, at 2 p.m., in the chapel at Westminster-Canterbury by the Rev. Elizabeth Lewis. A private burial will be in the Mount Jackson Cemetery.

Joseph Woodrow Rohrbaugh
MAURERTOWN - Joseph Woodrow Rohrbaugh, 90, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.
He was born on Mar. 2, 1919, in Beech Creek, Pa., and was a son of the late Israel Joseph and Harriet Grace Keiler Rohrbaugh.
Mr. Rohrbaugh received his bachelors degree from Lock Haven University in Pa. and a masters degree from Rutgers University in N.J. During World War II he was an Army officer in the 11th Armored Division and received a Purple Heart for service during the Battle of the Bulge. He retired to the Shenandoah Valley in 1974. He was an active volunteer with the Woodstock Museum and the Woodstock Library, having earlier served as volunteer manager and past president of the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Good Rohrbaugh; two sons, Michael Joseph Rohrbaugh of Tucson, Ariz., and John Franklin Rohrbaugh of Shady Side, Md.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 2, at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.

TOMS BROOK - Ella Worrell Rutz, 89, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at her home
She was born on April 16, 1920, at Camp Creek, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Edgar and Victoria Shockley Worrell.
Mrs. Rutz was a member of St. John\'s United Church of Christ, where she served as treasurer, on the consistory and Guild and the cemetery committee.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Carroll “Bud” Rutz of Toms Brook; a son, Arthur Norman Rutz, Sr. of Toms Brook; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Callie Worrell Harsh, and three brothers, Roy A. Worrell, Ray Brooks Worrell, and Earl Edgar Worrell.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Mar. 7, at 2 p.m., at the Dellinger Funeral Home, by Pastor Joe Fleming. Burial will follow at the St. John\'s United Church of Christ Cemetery.

MAURERTOWN - Dorothy F. Seal, 91, died on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010.
She was born on Oct. 4, 1919, in Basye, and was a daughter of the late Solon and Vertie Barb Funkhouser.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Fisher of Maurertown, Pat Jones of Mount Jackson, Rosalie Seal of Mount Jackson; a son Wm. Leon “Bill” Seal, Jr. of Edinburg; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William Leon Seal, Sr.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, Mar. 4, at Saumsville Cemetery with Pastor Joe Fleming officiating.

William Salter Werner
BAYSE - William Salter Werner, 72, died on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his home.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1937, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and was a son of the late Paul Russell and Louise Salter Werner.
Mr. Werner received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1959. He played lacrosse and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Baltimore from 1959 until 1986, where he started as an Electrical Engineer and rose to the position of Area Manager of Steelmaking Maintenance. He then worked as an Assistant Vice President and Executive Manager for Blumenthal-Kahn Electric Company, later ending his career as a consultant, working for himself. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and its choir.
On June 18, 1960, he married Patricia Jean Ebaugh.
He is survived by his son William Russell Werner of Spencerville, Md.; his son Jeffrey Bryan Werner of Charlottesville; four grandchildren; and his sister, Linda Van Horn.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Mar. 5, at 11 a.m., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Bayse. Interment will be at St. Michaels Pine Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery at a later date.

Opal Ritenour “Scottie” WynDham
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS - Opal Ritenour “Scottie” WynDham, 85, died on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010.
She was born on Feb. 26, 1924, in Fort Valley, and was a daughter of the late Roy M. and Bernice Ritenour.
Mrs. WynDham was employed by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Maryland and retired with 22 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, Ga.
She is survived by her children, Cindy McCutcheon and Connie Ogo of Ocean Springs, Susan Oelze of Powder Springs, Ga., Maria Wonders of Colonial; Jim Scott of Lawrenceville, Ga., Robert Scott of Cape Charles and Michael Scott of Manassas; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny D. WynDham; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Scott and a brother, Bernard M. Ritenour.
Funeral services were private.
