Robert Charles Christiansen Jr.
LOUISA - Robert Charles Christiansen Jr., 40, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Christiansen was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late Robert Charles Christiansen, Sr. He was a member of New Life Community Church, Louisa, and was a master carpenter and a waste water treatment plant operator for Aqua America.
Surviving are his wife, Diana L. Christiansen; his mother, Ann Marie McCarty; paternal grandfather, Charles R. Christiansen; maternal grandmother, Rachel Boone; sons, Robert C. Christiansen III and Jarrett W. Christiansen; daughter, Annie K. Christiansen; his former wife, Terry Christiansen of Mount Jackson; stepsons, Michael D. Kennedy Jr. and Justin E. Maddox; stepdaughter, Lynsey M. Maddox; step-grandsons, Patchrick D. Kennedy and Ian T. Talbott; brother, James Christiansen; sister, Debbie Pavan-Peterman; and extended family and friends.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Josh Turner at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at New Life Community Church.

Berlyn Frederick Cook
WOODSTOCK - Berlyn Frederick Cook, 77, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mr. Cook was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Woodstock, son of the late Jessie Frederick and Clara Virginia Coffman Cook. He was a 1949 graduate of Woodstock High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Woodstock, American Legion Post No. 199, Woodstock Moose Lodge No. 575, Massanutten Antique Tractor and Gasoline Engine Club, International Order of Bastards, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Shenandoah Lodge Nov. 82, American Rifle Association and a life member of Edinburg VFW Post No. 2447.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Stephen Cook of Winchester and Martin Lynn Cook of Stephens City; two daughters, Marilyn Diane Cook and Mona Lee Sibert and husband Arthur Jr., all of Woodstock; two brothers, Allen Lee Cook of Woodstock and Lester Wayne Cook of Edinburg.

Betty Lou DiPasquale
STRASBURG - Betty Lou DiPasquale, 75, died April 29, 2008, at Heritage Hall Health Care in Front Royal.
Mrs. DiPasquale was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Strasburg, daughter of the late Robert C. and Della Wolverton Pence. She retired from Mosler Inc. in New Jersey.
Surviving are two sisters, Peggy Rosenberger of Strasburg and Elizabeth “Katy” Baker of Fishers Hill.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be private.

Beverley Leon Downey
EDINBURG - Beverley Leon Downey, 84, died Friday, May 2, 2008.
Mr. Downey was born March 31, 1924, in Mount Jackson, son of the late Charles H. and Gladys Shaffer Downey. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Normandy invasion and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Edinburg VFW Post 2447 and was the husband of the late Neda Nicholson Downey.
Surviving are four sons, Barry L. Downey of Basye, Gary L. Downey, Beverly L. “Boots” Downey and Jerry Downey, all of Mount Jackson; stepson, Mark Click Jr. of Culver, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Betty J. Miller of Edinburg, Ida Bowers of Staunton and Frances Ridout of Westerville, Ohio; sister, Louise Beedle of Edinburg; brother, Bill Downey of Mount Jackson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Cedarwood Cemetery, Edinburg, with the Rev. John F. Taylor Jr. officiating and military honors by Edinburg VFW 2447.

Ronald Snider Eye
MATHIAS, W.VA. - Ronald Snider Eye, 65, died Thursday, April 1, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Eye was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Mathias, W.Va., son of Izetta Snider Eye of Strasburg and the late Neufer Eye. He was a graduate of Strasburg High School, a veteran having served in Vietnam, and was retired from Wampler Foods. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Strasburg and VFW Post 7780.
In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Jane Kay Moyers Eye; two daughters, Kelly Smith and husband Larry of Mathias, Tracey Poe of Mathias; two grandsons, Timothy Ronald (T.J.) Poe and Brier Gaige Smith; four sisters, Lisa Pangle of Strasburg, Nancy Moomaw of Edinburg, Pat Robinson of Woodstock, Jane Richard of Toms Brook; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Burial was private in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Dewey Lee Foltz Jr.
SHENANDOAH - Dewey Lee Foltz Jr., 81, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg.
Mr. Foltz was born May 1, 1927, in Stanley, son of the late Dewey Lee Foltz and Estella Mae Yates Foltz. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
On Aug. 19, 1948, he married June Elizabeth Karnes, who survives and has lived at Life Care Center in New Market for the past year and a half. Mr. Foltz had lived with her for the past two months.
In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter, Barbara Shoemaker of Singers Glen; four brothers, Edwin N. Foltz and William A. Foltz, both of Luray, and Aubrey D. Foltz and H. Page Foltz, both of Stanley; and one sister, Clair V. Fisher of Stanley.
The Rev. Patricia K. Covington and Mark Briehl conducted the funeral service Tuesday, May 6, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial was in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg.

Stanley Allen Golladay
MOUNT JACKSON - Stanley Allen Golladay, 76, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Consulate Health Care of Woodstock.
Mr. Golladay was born July 17, 1931, in Timberville, son of the late Martin and Bessie Pence Golladay. He was an Army veteran and worked in maintenance at Bryce Resort. He was a member of Smith Creek Baptist Church and Orkney Springs Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Golladay; daughter, Grace Speicher of Edinburg; three sons, Jerry Golladay of Basye, Larry Golladay and Gary Golladay, both of Mount Jackson; sister, Elsie Ramey of Elkton; and four grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, May 6, at Smith Creek Baptist Church, New Market, by Pastor Nelson Pettitt and Phil Speicher. Burial was in Mt. Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Dorothy J. Green
MOUNT JACKSON - Dorothy J. Green, 86, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Green was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Mount Jackson, daughter of the late Samuel M. and C. Elizabeth Pence Campbell. She graduated from Triplett in 1939. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Mount Jackson. In her earlier years she was a member of the Mount Jackson Home Demonstration Club, Mount Jackson Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Mount Jackson Women of the Moose No. 1403. On Dec. 31, 1940, she married Leon F. Green, who preceded her in death June 22, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth L. Green, July 14, 2003
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Green Spiggle Tilley and husband Jerry W. Tilley of Mount Jackson; grandson, John H. Spiggle II; sister, Mary Belle Miller of Richmond and formerly of Mount Jackson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two half sisters, Lucy Douglass and Evelyn Ryman; and one half brother, William (Bub) Clem.
Mrs. Green has resided at Life Care Center, New Market, for the past six years, leaving many friends and a loving staff behind.
The memorial services are private.

Alfred Francis “Pat” Guard
MIDDLETOWN - Alfred Francis “Pat” Guard, 90, passed away on April 29, 2008 at Consulate Health Care of Woodstock.
Mr. Guard was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Stephens City, son of the late Wilbur Muse and Mamie Brumback Guard. He was a retired truck driver for Hemingway Trucking Company, formerly Novick Transfer and a farmer. He was a member of the Stephens City United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army/Air Force. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Foley Cayton Guard.
Alfred and Evelyn were married in 1942 and he cared for his loving wife for two years until she passed away in 1995. Their daughter, Linda Ebersole, took care of her father for three years before he went to the nursing home. The family wishes to thank the staff at Consulate Health Care of Woodstock for their kindness and care of their father.
Surviving are a son, Alfred F. “Sonny” Guard II of Greenville, Tenn.; two daughters, Linda G. Ebersole of Stephens City and Carol G. Fogle of Maurertown; three grandchildren, Debbie Amick, Caisee E. Fogle and Ashley R. Guard; and three great-grandchildren, Steven Booth, Nichole Waddell and Corey Amick; two sisters-in-law, Belva Guard and Mary Ann Guard.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Mark Ebersole; and three brothers, Edward, Harry and Ralph Guard.
A funeral service was conducted Friday, May 2, at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, by Pastor Joe Fleming. Burial on Saturday was conducted by Pastor Joe Fleming at Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, with military honors by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77, Strasburg.

Cathy Hively Hughes
TIMBERVILLE - Cathy Hively Hughes, 43, died April 29, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Hughes was born May 12, 1964, in Harrisonburg, daughter of James and Carole Hively of Broadway. She was a graduate of Broadway High School and Virginia Tech. She was an agriculture teacher at Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg, John C. Myers Middle School in Broadway and retired from Massanutten Regional Governor’s School in Mount Jackson. She had worked in tourism sales at Johnny Appleseed Hotel in New Market and served as executive director of the Virginia FFA Foundation for three years. She served in FFA offices of the Broadway Chapter, Rockingham Federation, president of Virginia State FFA Association and traveled to Europe and Japan through the National FFA Experience Abroad Programs. She received the State and American FFA degrees and was a presented the Honorary American FFA Degree. She was a life member of the National FFA Alumni and National Young Farmers Association, was a member of the Broadway-Timberville Ruritan Club and Westside Baptist Church in Harrisonburg, serving as praise and worship team leader, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, David Michael Hughes, whom she married Dec. 14, 1991; two sisters and their families, Kerri Earhart and husband Alan and niece and nephews, Erin, Jacob and Jesse of Broadway; Wendi Atwood and husband David and niece and nephew, Bailey and Brett of Ashland; and paternal grandmother, Maude Hively and maternal grandmother, Edith Shelly, both of Harrisonburg.
A celebration of life was conducted Saturday, May 3, at J. Frank Hillyard Middle School, Broadway, by the Rev. George Bowers. Burial was private.

Marcia Gail Kabriel
STAR TANNERY - Marcia Gail Kabriel, 70, died April 29, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Kabriel was born Jan. 8, 1938, in El Reno, Okla., daughter of the late Gail and Katherine Marsh Slaughter. She was a psychotherapist.
Surviving are her companion, Allan John Salim; two sons, Joseph Charles Kabriel of Baltimore and Jeffrey Gail Kabriel of Andover, Mass.; daughter, Jae B. Kabriel Schoolden of Welcome, Md.; two brothers, Jack Slaughter of Blanchard, Okla., and Gene Slaughter of Oklahoma City; and a granddaughter.
Services will be private at a later date.

Colton Thomas Lindamood
EDINBURG - Colton Thomas Lindamood, 15, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Winchester.
Colton was born Oct. 1, 1992, in Winchester, son of Thomas M. Lindamood and Cathy M. McClanahan Lindamood. He was a student at Central High School and a member of the FFA. He attended St. John’s Untied Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Tyler Lindamood.
Pastor David Roe will conduct the funeral service at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the Central High School Gymnasium in Woodstock. Burial will be private.

Frances L. Gochenour McDaniel
SEBRING, FLA. - Frances L. Gochenour McDaniel, 88, also of Woodstock, met with God’s angels and her soul was carried to meet the Lord on Feb. 11, 2008.
Mrs. McDaniel was born in Harrisonburg, daughter of the late Emanual and Mary Elizabeth Frye Shank.
She was preceded in death by husband, Landon Lee Gochenour; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Haldeman; sisters, Esther Showalter and Dorothy Kiser; and brothers, Arville and Alvin Shank.
At the time of her death, Frances was the loving wife to Arthur W. McDaniel; mother of Sue (David) Cassel of Center Valley, Pa., Harold (Deanna) Gochenour of Defuniak Springs, Fla., William (Diane) Gochenour of Glendora, Calif., Denise (Larry) Parrillo, Northridge, Calif., and her stepchildren, David (Heather) McDaniel of Maine, and Susan (Robert) Tkachick of Delaware; sister to Reba Poff, Pauline Painter, and Kathleen Spitzer, all of Virginia; grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of 40.
Frances loved her God and enjoyed singing for him and praising him every moment of her life. She was a past faithful member of Antioch, Lorida, and Sebring Churches of the Brethren.
Frances’ ashes will be interred at graveside May 25 at 3 p.m. at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock, with the Rev. George Bowers, Antioch Church of the Brethren, conducting the service. Family and friends are welcome to join in praising the Lord for giving us 88 years of Frances’ life here on earth. In case of severe inclement weather, the service will be held at the Antioch Church of the Brethren, 23502 Senado Road, Woodstock. |

Charles Russell “Russ” Miller
BOYCE - Charles Russell “Russ” Miller, 86, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Warren Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Miller was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Toms Brook, son of the late John H. and Helena “Nellie” Turbersville Miller. He was an Army veteran of World War II during in the Battle of the Bulge and served in Korea. He and his wife owned and operated the Lone Oak Restaurant at Waterloo for 30 years. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toms Brook.
Surviving is his wife, Thelma White Miller.
A graveside service was conducted Friday, May 2, at Toms Brook Cemetery by Pastor C. Keith Warren, with military honors by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 of Strasburg.

EAST EARL, PA. - Ferman L. Riffey, 81, formerly of Woodstock, died Saturday, April 26, 2008.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys C. Barb Riffey; son, Michael Riffey of Atlanta; daughter, Lori Ann Markus Kesner of Winchester; two sisters, Lelia Marie Robinson and Violena Replogle; two brothers, Charles D. Riffey Jr. and Darrell J. Riffey; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday, May 4, at Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Edith Irene Smallwood
WINCHESTER - Edith Irene Smallwood, 79, formerly of White Post, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Smallwood was born March 26, 1929, in Timberville, daughter of the late Noah and Nettie Frye Ryman. She retired as a nurse’s aide from Winchester Medical Center. She was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Winchester, and was the wife of the late Ivan Elwood Smallwood.
Surviving are a son, Gary A. Smallwood of Stephens City; brother, Noah Junior Ryman of Roxboro, N.C.; three sisters, Hazel Carper of Winchester, Elizabeth Murphy and Virginia Lloyd, both of Mount Jackson.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Jerry Weigel officiating. Burial will be in Providence Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarke County.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Ryman, Jamie Ryman, Wayne Murphy, Brian Murphy and Carl E. Day III.

Audrey G. Taylor
FRONT ROYAL - Audrey G. Taylor of Front Royal, 52, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester.
Mrs. Taylor was born Dec. 25, 1955 in Arlington, daughter of the late Reginald T. Lathon and Mary Ann Wiggins. Before her illness, for 26 years, she was employed by Sensational Family Hair Cutters, Tu Tu’s Hair and Nail Salon and Debbie’s Hair and Nails.
A hard worker, her career was her passion in which she was loyal to each client and making sure they left with a smile. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and playing with her grandsons.
Audrey will be remembered as a comedian as some say, and a strong hearted woman. Her nicknames were “Mickey” and “Baby Girl.”
During her stay at Hospice, Audrey made many friends who catered to her “sweet tooth” especially ice cream. She and her husband celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on April 8.
Surviving are her husband, Christopher P. Taylor; two daughters April D. Clatterbuck and husband Warren, Leslie J. Taylor and fiancé Aron M. Robinson, all from Front Royal; four brothers, William F. Lathon, Reginald T. Lathon Jr., James L. Lathon, all of Virginia, and Karl D. Lathon of Georgia; two sisters, Christine A. Weatherholtz and Judy “Suzette” Hefner, both from North Carolina; two grandsons, Nathan H. Clatterbuck and Cohen G. Clatterbuck of Front Royal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, stepfather J.W. Wiggins, and nephew Tyree “Ty” Lathon.
A funeral service was conducted Friday, May 2, at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, by Major Calvin W. Clatterbuck. Graveside services were held at the Panorama Memorial Gardens, Strasburg.
