Kathy Vollmer Hulvey, 62, of Harrisonburg, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018, at her residence.
She was born April 21, 1956, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Dr. Fred and Marge Vollmer.
She was employed as an MSR at the Dayton office of Shenandoah Valley Electric Co-Op.
She worked previously at The Boys and Girls Club in Harrisonburg, heading the program at Pleasant Valley Elementary, and was the assistant director of the Brown Memorial Childcare Program in McGaheysville. Many may remember her welcoming smile from her days at Sky Yogurt.
She was a member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She valued hard work and particularly considered it her joyful service to lend a hand cleaning or landscaping. She enjoyed the outdoors, photography, watching baseball and playing tennis. She loved collecting heart-shaped shells and rocks and ministering to others in need by giving out olive wood crosses.
On Dec. 20, 2007, she married Doug Hulvey, who survives.
She is also survived by their joint family Jay Sullenger of La Mirada, Calif., Ben Sullenger of Madison Heights, Kelly Sullenger of Harrisonburg, Carolina Kornegay of Winter Park, Colo. and Wind Kornegay of Iwakuni, Japan; 12 grandchildren; her siblings of Fred Vollmer of Bel Air, Md., Art Vollmer of Santa Fe, N.M., Bobby Vollmer of Timonium, Md., Leo Vollmer of Kennedyville, Md., Anne Oropeza of Williamsburg, Mary Ciminello of San Ramon, Calif. and Bill Vollmer of Portland, Ore.
A service celebrating her life will be held at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene, 1871 Boyers Rd., at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7. Pastor Kerry Willis and Pastor Roger Dove will officiate. Lindsey Funeral Homes is handling the arrangements.
She took two trips to the Holy Land. On her honeymoon trip, she decided that she would like her ashes to be combined with her husband and scattered there.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make this desire a reality, please consider sending a donation to Kelly Sullenger, 288 Emerald Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
