ELKTON — Sage Fox slapped down 20 kills and had 30 digs as second-seeded East Rockingham survived some first-set hiccups to defeat seventh-seeded Buffalo Gap 26-28, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 in the Region 2B volleyball quarterfinals in Elkton on Thursday.
Delanie Wigley dished out 33 assists for the Eagles while Emma Wigley scooped up 16 digs and Kayla Rhodes finished with 18 kills.
For the Bison (9-15), Amaya Lucas had nine kills and nine blocks, Leah Sherrill had nine kills and 27 digs and Emma Kate Maxwell finished with 15 assists.
With the win, East Rock (23-4) will host sixth-seeded Clarke County — a straight-sets winner over Strasburg — in the regional quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Elkton.
The winner of that match will advance to Thursday’s regional championship game and clinch a berth in this year’s Virginia High School League Class 2 state tournament.

Trio Of Streaks Qualify For State Meet
EARLYSVILLE — Harrisonburg junior David Beck ran a time of 16:47.3 to finish sixth at the Region 5D boys cross country championships at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.
Beck wasn’t the only HHS boy to qualify for next week’s Virginia High School League Class 5 state meet, however, with Hayden Kirwan (17:30.0) finishing 16th.
Joining Beck and Kirwan from the Blue Streaks program at the state meet will be Kate Kirwan, who ran a 21:07.1 to place eighth in the girls race, and will go to states for the first time in her career.
Mast Closes Season At VISAA Championships
MECHANICSVILLE — Eastern Mennonite junior Halie Mast closed her strong season out with an eighth-place finish at the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II girls cross country championships at Pole Green Park.
Mast finished with a time of 20:35.9 while teammate Jenna Weaver (21:52.6) was 28th.
For the boys, freshman Jakob Gerlach (17:49.3) finished 24th to lead the Flames.
