Anthony R. Whetzel

Anthony Robert Whetzel, 33, of Broadway, died Sept. 15, 2018, at his residence. He was born Sept. 26, 1984, in Harrisonburg and was a son of Harry R. and Faye Price Whetzel of Timberville.

Anthony retired as a captain for the Rockingham County Fire and Rescue. He was vice president of the International Association of Professional Firefighters Local 3321 and also a member of the Concord Church United Church of Christ near Timberville.

On July 7, 2012, he married the former Drenna Cook, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are a son, Rylan Whetzel; daughter, Callie Whetzel; brother, Dustin Whetzel and wife, Candace, of Timberville; maternal grandmother, Laverne Price of Broadway. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Everette Price; paternal grandmother, Mary Lee Whetzel; and an uncle, William “Eater” Whetzel.

Pastor Joel Walkley and Dr. Bob Southerland will conduct a funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cornerstone Church in Broadway. Burial will follow in the Concord U.C.C. Cemetery near Timberville.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cornerstone Church in Broadway.

Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund that will be set up for his children at Farmers and Merchants Bank or to the Concord U.C.C.
