Lynn Joseph Higgs

Lynn Joseph Higgs, 81, left his earthly home to be with the Lord and begin his new life in Heaven on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. He was at home with his loving family. He fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years with God and his family by his side for the long journey. His was a life well lived serving God and leading his family as a Christian husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his family with so many wonderful, happy memories of times together.

Lynn was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Shenandoah, Va., (Newport) to Leonard and Lucy Shirkey Higgs. He graduated from Shenandoah High School and served in the Army National Guard. He worked for General Electric and Genicom for 34 years.

He was united in marriage on June 24, 1961, to the love of his life and soulmate, Doris Duncan Higgs, who survives. God blessed them with two daughters, Robin Lynn Golliday (Cecil) and Michele Anne Mason (Jeff), and three granddaughters, Hannah, Gracie and Faith.

Also surviving are three sisters, Naomi Henderson, Nancy Turner and Ruth Hilliard (Charles). He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lucy Higgs; his in-laws, Richard and Charlotte Duncan; and brothers-in-law, Roy Henderson, Gene Turner and Eddie Duncan.

A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held at Church of Solsburg, Elkton, Va., on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Josh Shifflett and Pastor Clyde Plum officiating with a private burial to follow.

The family will receive friends at Church of Solsburg beginning at noon prior to the service.

This is the message of Lynn’s life that he leaves to all who are yet left here:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day — and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV)
