That's some pretty sketchy methodology. And the article also quotes another study with a different conclusion: "At the state level, we find no evidence of a relationship between charitable giving and Republican presidential voteshare."

Yes, a century and a half ago Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Democrat. If he were alive today he"d be a Republican, the same as the Republicans in the Tennessee legislature who withheld money from Memphis last year for taking down a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest.
